U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 3,700 structure fires per year at hotel or motel properties between 2006-2010. These fires caused average annual losses of 12 civilian deaths, 143 civilian injuries, and $127 million in direct property damage each year.  Choose a hotel that’s protected by both smoke alarms and a fire sprinkler system. Review the safety flyer to read all of NFPA's hotel and motel safety tips.

Emergency Response, your life may depend on it!  Recognizing medical emergencies is the first step in providing aid to those in need.  The Texas Department of Health has provided valuable information to help someone experiencing a medical emergency.  Their program, “When minutes Count” covers:

  • Calling 9-1-1
  • Emergency care rules
  • How to check breathing and heart beat
  • Heart Attack/Chest Pain
  • Bleeding
  • Broken Bones
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • If an infant chokes and is conscious
  • If an infant chokes and becomes unconscious
  • Convulsions/Seizures
  • Insect bites
  • Snake Bites
  • Eyes
  • Fainting
  • Head, Neck or Back Injuries
  • Poisoning/Overdose
  • Unconsciousness
