Daylight Savings
Tuesday, February 15, 2022

Daylight Savings is March 13th, so please remind family and friends to change their smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector batteries.  Did you know:

  • The peak time for home fire fatalities is between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most families are sleeping.
  • Smoke alarm maintenance is a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths.
  • Children and senior citizens are most at risk, and a working smoke alarm can give them the extra seconds they need to get out safely.
  • Home fires kill 500 children ages 14 and under each year.
  • Seventy five percent of child fire fatalities under age 15 occurred in homes without working smoke alarms.
  • Seniors — Adults 75 and older are 2.8 times more likely to die in a home fire.

Spring forward on your clocks, and remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors! Make sure you dispose of the old batteries safely, covering the terminal ends with electrical tape. It's a good time to schedule the free Home Safety Inspection too! The firefighters can address hazards found in your home and offer solutions to help prevent an accident, injury, or fire! You can schedule your inspection by calling Michael @ 210-832-2206, or email [email protected]
