CDC's Halloween Guidelines Warn Against Typical Trick-Or-Treating

Happy Halloween! The CDC has announced some annual guidelines and recommendations during this holiday season to make sure you and your loved ones have a safe and happy holidays. The CDC recommendations are not meant to replace local and state guidelines but help provide helpful information. Some helpful reminders this Halloween include:
- If exposed to or have COVID-19, please refrain from hosting or participating in in-person activities
- Make sure to wear lights when outside
- Drivers, use extra caution while driving on Halloween
- Social Distance and limit close contact: maintain a safe distance of at least 6 feet between all Halloween participants
- Wear masks that still adhere to CDC guidelines (caution: do not use costume masks in place of cloth masks)
- Limit contact with frequently touched or shared surfaces or items
- Wash hands frequently
- Continue safe handling of food and beverages (try to use single-serve items and wash and disinfect when possible)
The CDC also has guidelines for low, moderate, and high-risk activities
Low Risk:
- Carving or decorating pumpkins using social distance practices
- Virtual Halloween party/contests
- Halloween movie night with family
Moderate Risk:
- One-way trick-or-treating (individual bags lined up from a safe distance to grab)
- Halloween costume parade with 6 feet social distancing performed
- Outdoor costume party with social distance guidelines followed
- Visiting pumpkin patches with hand sanitizer and hand washing performed
High Risk:
- Participating in traditional trick-or-treating or trunk-or-treats where direct contact and social distancing is not observed
- Attending crowded indoor or outdoor parties where social distancing is not observed
- Traveling or attended crowded Halloween events with people outside of your household
With the CDC listing their appropriate guidelines, it is the wish of the City of Alamo Heights for all families and participants to have a safe and fun Halloween
